BURY ST. EDMUNDS GROUP
INTRODUCTION
Bury St Edmunds is an ancient town in West Suffolk which grew up around the once powerful Benedictine Abbey. The ancient street pattern survives to this day. Situated alongside the East/West A14 road it is easily accessible and is a popular destination for visitors. There is a busy street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Among the attractive features of the town are the magnificent Cathedral and St Mary's church and the celebrated Abbey Gardens which have won many national awards.

PROGRAMME
The Bury St Edmunds Group of the Suffolk Family History Society meets on the third Wednesday of each month ( except August and December ) at 7.30 pm in Horringer Court Middle School, Glastonbury Road, Bury St Edmunds. Members and non-members are welcome at these meetings.Glastonbury Road is one mile from the centre of Bury St Edmunds, off the A143 Bury to Haverhill road. There is ample car parking at the school. At the monthly meetings there are speakers on a wide variety of subjects and there are opportunities to consult the Group's library and computer indexes. The February meeting is devoted wholly to research. Coach trips are organised throughout the year to the Family Records Centre, The National Archives, National Newspaper Library and other Records Offices in the London Area.
